He was just trying to see why the first burner we tried to test wouldn't light.
He moved the match (actually a long butane lighter) from the front of the burner toward the back where the orifice and air adjuster are, then there was a little *poof* as it found the leak.
I had forgotten to screw that compression nut down. Thought for sure I had gotten them all. There are so many connections in there.
what happened to all of Mark's messages? They seem to have been deleted.
My appoliges to anyone reading this Safety Valve thread. I started it to bring the information to our group. Many group members were involved in developing an idea into a realistic finished project. One of the members who added much to this project has left the group and taken all his comments and photos with him. So as you try to read this thread and make sense of it, you will find many strange messages that are only one side of a conversation. I feel sure that others will document and provide photos as they work through this project and we can make it once more a usefull tool for anyone who wants a Safety System. Regards, Sam

let's try that again without smileys:

Darn it!
Once more -- this may not work, since I know I disabled smileys the first time. If it doesn't, then replace the :D in the first line with : D and the :P in the third with : P

OK I am back. Please stop trying to dig up my old posts in Google's cache, it's no longer necessary. I have made an illustrated PDF document that describes how to hook up the safety system. It is on the internet at:
http://members.cox.net/lowracer/ovensafety.pdf
I should note that I still haven't got a functioning oven with this safety system. There is a defect (?) with the Robertshaw 9B Universal pilot when used with the 1/4" compression nut and ferrule. The nut will only engage the first two threads and then there's no room to go any further. I had it hooked up this way and it was leaking gas. I coulda been killed. It would be very helpful if Robertshaw provided some instructions with their 9B pilot but they do not. I may have to switch it to 3/16" tomorrow just to get it to work.
Believe me when I say this, do not attempt the safety system without professional help. This is not a job for a layman. Especially if you do not have a sense of smell.
Mark,
Welcome back.... yadda yadda yadda..... did you use soapy water to figure out the leak?
Gasseous
Yes I mixed 50% tap water with 50% dawn and sprayed it on the suspected connections. I had my wife standing by to do a sniff check since I'm nose-deaf...
